What is Reiki?

The word Reiki comes from 2 Japanese words, Rei and Ki. The first word Rei means universal, all encompassing. Everyone and everything. The second word, Ki, is for energy. This is also the same meaning as Qi (Chinese), Chi (American version of Qi), Tao or Dao in Taoism, Prana (Indian), Mana (Islander), Great Spirit (Native American), Holy Spirit (Christian) and many from around the world.

How does Reiki Healing work?

Reiki healing is done using the Reiki Practioner (RP) as a conduit for the energy to heal. The person receiving the Reiki, the client, is the one doing the healing. (This is still the process when self healing). When we are injured in any way, our bodies try to heal themselves. Our body does this by sending extra energy to the location that needs the healing. When Reiki is given to a client, the RP is providing the extra energy the recipient needs in order to heal.

What takes place in a Reiki session?

During a Reiki session the client, fully clothed, lies down on a Reiki (massage) table. Sometimes face up, others face down, the client lays still while the Practitioner stands beside them. The Reiki Practioner can at this point work on the client in a couple of ways. The hands are lightly placed on the body, and energy is then channeled through the Practioner into the client. The other way is to have the hands slightly off the body, about 2 inches. The healing is just as effective this way. The session usually lasts anywhere from 1/2 to 1 1/2 hours depending on what is being worked on.
